A loan helped to buy potable water and fish to sell.

Jessenia Janeth's story

Jessenia Janeth and her family live in Montecristi, a place where handicrafts are made of straw, wicker, wood, and piquigua [a natural fiber that is native to the Andes]. This area is known for its Panama hats that are famous throughout the country and the rest of the world.

Jessenia Janeth is a high school teacher who is paid a monthly salary. She also owns a tanker truck for distributing water. Jessenia Janeth hires a driver to make deliveries and sell potable water within the city and to the factories outside of the city. She pays the driver a weekly salary. In addition, she buys and sells discarded fish parts for the factories to process into fish meal.
