Flash Fund Smashes Goal, Funds 1150 Farmers in 5 Days!

September 18, 2014

Farmers are awesome, aren’t they? We certainly think so! That’s why we held a Flash Fund from Sept 8-12 to help fund 500 farmers’ Kiva loans. Kiva farmers come from all over the world but are united in their passion for cultivating opportunity from hard work.
Thanks to Kiva lenders rallying to show their support, we smashed tour goal and more than 1150 farmers’ loans were funded during Flash Fund week!

Among the 1150 were young farmers, like Sibonisiwe in Zimbabwe, who owns a poultry business that she’ll be expanding with the help of her Kiva loan. Sibonisiwe is also a learner guide through Kiva Field Partner Camfed, which means she’s committed to helping other young women and girls in her community succeed.
During Flash Fund week you also helped support families. Leonadus is a father who runs a farm with his wife in northern Kenya. Though they have a diverse selection of crops, Leonadus is excited to expand to raising honey bees as well.
Sales from the honey will provide extra income, sorely needed in the small town Leonadus and his family live in on the edge of Lake Victoria. Working together, these bees will enrich the lives of his family by providing additional income and enrich his child’s mind by helping to pay for her education.
Farmers are doing amazing work each and every day for their families and communities around the world. Thanks again for being a part of our first ever Flash Fund week, we’re so grateful you helped make it such a success!
