I, Laura, founded Haw River Mushrooms in 2012 with my husband Ches. We always knew we wanted to be part of the regenerative agriculture movement - an approach to farming that seeks to leave the soil better off for future generations. As we worked on our business plan, we tended to a variety of vegetables and animals, but it was mushrooms that kept drawing our attention.

We were fascinated with their amazing versatility, flavor profiles, and unique growing habits. Mushrooms can clean the soil, feed a growing population, and elevate our meals with incredible textures, flavors, and nutrition. We decided to focus our work on mushrooms, and -named in honor of our local river, Haw River Mushrooms was born.

Today we are the largest grower of hardwood mushrooms in the state, and we make a variety of mushroom-based, shelf stable foods that make it easy for our customers to add tasty, sustainably grown, health enhancing mushrooms to their diet.

Our goal is to apply the wisdom of mushrooms to all aspects of our business -from our community relationships to our drive to surprise and delight customers.

We believe mushrooms are more than food—they’re a symbol of what’s possible. Our mission is to spark curiosity, nourish bodies, and heal soil—one mushroom at a time.
